LUPUS AND PREGNANCY

Lupus and Pregnancy

Abstract

Lupus is the disorder that affects more than 16, 000 Americans per year, the same causes is due to the inflammation of the skin, problems in joints, and also affects most of the body organs. Lupus can be severe as well as mild. It may last for a short period of time, and some time it becomes the chronic disease, Systemic Lupus Erythematosus or lupus normally affects women, not men. This sort of illness may cause in the women at the time of their productive year or year of pregnancy. Many years ago, women who had lupus were strongly advised not to become pregnant, since they were vulnerable to spontaneous abortion. Plus, the risk and complications in pregnancy were too high to take risk. These days women with lupus are encouraged to have babies and become pregnant, because successful pregnancy rates have reached over 50%.

Lupus Pregnancy

Introduction

Lupus is a disease which is a chronic multi system that occurs predominantly in females in the age of childbearing. Lupus is also known as Systematic Lupus Erythematosus. This is a disease in which the body`s resistance system imperfectly attacks the tissues and organs. This can be lead to damage, and irritates the organs, and other body parts, such as joints, lungs, heart, blood vessels, and kidney. Out of these organs the kidney is the organ which is influenced most extensively. Therefore an effective clinical setting for disease management is crucial in such groups of patients.

It is also asserted that there is a need for concern about whether the symptoms of lupus can make pregnancy complicated, and if this may affect the mother and fetus. On the other side, individuals tend to feel anxious about the risks and the complications which could eventually cause lupus during pregnancy. This is because of the fact that the disease may increase the risk of spontaneous abortion. The following discussion will shed light on some of the basic facts about lupus and how pregnancy may be affected by it. The discussion will also shed light on the role of preventative measures to ensure a healthy and risk-free pregnancy (Crowley, et al, 1998).
