Keeping in mind the phrase that timing is everything, it is not wrong to say that timing can be one of the most important tool of an outstanding leader. Although, there is no right or wrong time to intervene, but a leader typically intervene, when the group is waiting, or anticipating the leadership to guide them. It is the timing of the intervention that either makes a valuable contribution in the form of guidance, or may distract the performance of the otherwise performing team, or make no difference at all. There is not time to act, but when deemed best by the leader. There are unexpected times when interventions can have positive effects, in the form of solving conflicts, or re align spin off attentions and efforts on to track. There are two timing types in general, both equally important. The First type is when the leader is for the interventions that the team expects. The second timing is when the leader intervenes and addresses the unexpected problem of the group.
