Theories Relating To The Management Of People At Work

motivation is formally defined as forces within an individual account for level, direction, and persistence of effort. Within each of us as human beings there are factors that influence decisions we make about how to react to things we experience.

Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs

Maslow showed little interest in laboratory animal studies or human behavior. He chose to collect data for his theories through study of outstanding individuals. His studies led him to believe that people have certain needs, which are immutable and genetic. These needs are same in all cultures and are physiological and psychological. Maslow described these needs as the hierarchy that exists in nature, meaning that some needs are more basic or more powerful than others and that these needs are satisfied, other higher needs emerge.

There is little research to support this theory, due to changing work environments quickly, these days this type of theory must be more flexible to accommodate people working today.

Herzberg Hygiene theory

Herzberg found that factors causing job satisfaction (and, presumably, motivation) were different from those causing job dissatisfaction. He developed the theory of motivation hygiene to explain these results. He called satisfiers motivators and hygiene factors of dissatisfaction, using term "hygiene" in sense that they are considered maintenance factors that are necessary to prevent dissatisfaction, but that alone does not provide satisfaction. Herzberg motivators described as growth, self-esteem, recognition, responsibility, advancement and personal goals. Hygiene are: job security, working conditions, company policies, coworker relations and supervisory relationships. Frederick Herzberg Two factor theory is also included in process of motivation of three organizations. And scheduling policies are flexible. Daughters Barbara, owner of Lake Alpine Lodge, works for the "fun environment lose." She is receptive to our needs, as Kelley asking the million questions about management process of twelve weeks. In fact, three owners have been receptive to their many questions.

Discussion

theory of Maslow and Herzberg Hygiene theory differ due to peoples' needs do not change over time in theory of Herzberg. three resemble each other in physiological Maslow, safety abd social needs, Herzberg's hygiene factors are met by conditions of employment and workplace. Motivation initially begins within ourselves, but also contains influential external motivation. These theories argue that the person needs to be met for them to find job satisfaction.
