Employee Communications

Abstract

Employee engagement is personified by the passion and energy employees have to give of their best to the organization to serve the customer. It is all about the willingness and ability of employees to give sustained discretionary effort to help their organization succeed. In this paper, we try to focus on the online system for employee communication. This project covers a workplace problem or issue by analyzing the problem or issue. The paper identifies the cause of the problem. The paper highlights alternative solutions, and evaluating them for their advantages and disadvantages to arrive at a recommendation. In its final section, the paper will describe an implementation plan with a follow-up procedure for monitoring results. It will also include a proposed policy to address and avert the problem in the future.

Communication competence also encompasses the ability to reveal appropriate communication in a particular setting. Communication competence has been described as being related to concepts such as accuracy, clarity, flexibility, success, affection, empathy, and effectiveness. This entry provides an overview of communication competence, a discussion of interpersonal communication competence, an examination of organizational communication competence, a description of intercultural communication competence, and a connection between communication competence and identity.

Communication competence has an intangible, nebulous, contextual nature that makes it difficult to study; however, the fundamental relevance of communication competence to all disciplines makes it an essential focus of investigation. Communication competence is a skill that most individuals strive to achieve. Individuals and organizations spend millions of dollars in training sessions to become competent communicators. Research shows that competent communicators are considered to be more successful than incompetent communicators in relationships and in the workplace (Watkins, 2010).

Communication involves managing information in ways that allow people to take action. This definition is broadly stated, because the field of communication is evolving rapidly due to advances in electronic forms of communication. Only a few decades ago, a reasonable definition of communication might have stressed the importance of “translating” ideas into clear and accessible written text. What was then called writing involved gathering information, usually from engineers or software developers, and converting that information into paper-based documentation. Communication mostly involved producing documentation for procedures, specifications, software, and machinery.

Background

The arrival and expansion of the networked computer since the 1990s, however, has dramatically changed the field of communication. Today, communication involves issues of knowledge management, information architecture, and knowledge engineering. Communicators need to know how to organize, manipulate, and coordinate large amounts of and scientific information so it can be effectively applied. The ability to translate information into clear written text is still an important part of communication; however, the ability to manage that information has become its equal in the last decade. Communication is increasingly about using networked computers to manage the flow of existing information so users can easily access and use it.
