Introduction

The word crime is defined as “any act or legal conduct that has to be condemned and punished by the law”. A crime has to be backed by appropriate conviction, and therefore, a legal action defined by the country law. Crime is anything that falls outside the circle of law of a country. Since, law varies from country to country; definition of crime also varies from society to society.

Crime and punishment is an on-going phenomenon from medieval times. The world is witnessing immense increase in crime, every going day. Crime brings unrest and disruption to a society, and therefore, masses are subject to question of their safety and survival. The paper discusses various crimes faced by the world today. It also presents statistical evidence, with regard to, the figures and facts of the present day crime. The paper also discusses criminal justice systems of different countries, as well as, prime prevention and conviction strategies followed by the countries. The paper looks into implementation of crime prevention strategies by the criminal justice system of America, and compares it with Criminal justice system of other countries. The paper assesses effectiveness of measures pursued by different criminal justice system regarding crime prevention and eradication (McMahon & Garside, 2008).

Forms of global crime

Global crime encompasses the forms of crime that includes any violation of law that encompasses operating and functioning beyond borders. There is a dark side to globalization, that is, the birth of globalized crime (Anon, 2007). Crime rates have been increasing at increasing rates with the passage of time. Extreme poverty, as well as, other socio-economic and cultural factors; contribute to the escalation of crime. The present day crime posts hostile threats to humanity, as well as, questioning the survival and safety of societies. There are various forms of crime that have been globalized. Their major forms are discussed as under;

Terrorism

It is defined as “the planned and systematic use of violence and coercion, in order to, create fear and spread horror”.

Human trafficking

It is defined as “the illegal trading of human being across borders for motives of sexual exploitation and forced labor”.

Drug trafficking

It is defined as “the trade of drugs across borders, in order to, cause human damage and violate international laws pertaining to drug trade”.

Contraband Smuggling

It is defined as “the smuggling of humans across borders through illegal measures, pertaining to violation of country laws, as well as, international laws”.

Money Laundering

It is defined as “the process of hiding and concealing money and other economic assets through illegal means”.

Economic spying

It is defined as “the spying of confidential and private information without informing the one who is holding the information”.

Intellectual property theft

It is defined as “the theft of an idea or other intellectual content that is useful for betterment of the global society, in any means”.
