Concept of Imamate in Sunni and Shia Belief

Introduction

Shiite sect of Islam is part of its second principal group, after the Sunnis. Followers of Shiite Islam are known as Shia and its literal meaning is devotees of Hazrat Ali.

Similar to the other Islamic beliefs, Shiite belief is supported by the knowledge of Muslim's Holy Book - Qoran and the messages of their last messenger, Hazrat Mohammed (peace be upon him). Unlike other schools, supporters of Shiite Islam believes that Mohammed family, people in the House of Representatives and some people, including their heirs, are very important religious and opinionated power among the sect. Shiites have faith upon the premise that Hazrat Ali is a cousin of Mohammed, and His son in law, and therefore rejects the authority of the previous imams.

Shiites consider Hazrat Ali as the succeeding vital religious figure after the last mesenger. As per their belief, Hazrat Mohammed (PBUH) mentioned several times in His life that Hazrat Ali ought to be the principal of the Muslim society after His departure. In accordance with their beliefs, as the beneficiary of Holy Prophet, Hazrat Ali has not only brought the community of justice, but the deduction of Islamic law and its importance, which supports the argument that Ali was considered a sin and error free, and chosen by God through divine decree as the largest magnet. Depending on their beliefs, Ali was named as the perfect man of the Holy Prophet, should provide Shiite faith. As a result, Shia follow the hadith endorsed by Holy Prophet, and is ascribed with His kindred and friends, relatives, unlike the Sunni tradition, which is largely expressed by most of the Sunnah of the Prophet's companions. Therefore, differences between Sunni and Shiite hadith emerged as the main reasons for the resistance between them, because they do not recognize the sources of hadith.

Hazrat Ali's position, with the support of many hadiths, including weight of pen and paper hadith hadith, hadith call by family friends, and Hadith of the Twelve survivors. Particularly, Hadith stratum is often cited to illustrate the feeling of Holy Prohet and his kin, via Sunni and Shiite scholars. Hence, Shia Muslims have faith that the Hadiths of the Hoy Prophet's kin are predominant in comparison with other sources.

Although there were several branches, which are Shiite history, Shia Islam today is alienated into three major divisions. The biggest wing of Shiites in the twenty first century is what is known as "Twelvers", while smaller branches are Ismaili Zaidi, who competed for the succession of the twelvers, also have similar convictions. Most people among Twelvers are in Iran, Azerbaijan, Bahrain and Iraq. Zaidiyyah an important part of other Middle-East states. In other countries, a significant proportion of Shiites are Sudan, Jordan, Eygypt, Pakistan, Azerbaijan, Algeria, Bahrain, Oman, Burma, Mayanmar and Syria.
