Introduction

Communication is the method of an individual expressing emotions, ideas, and knowledge with another individual or group who interpret and understand the meaning of the message being sent. People communicate through speaking, listening, and observing. The manner which a person communicates depends on each individual's life experiences, environment and how they are brought up. It is found to be effective in several manners including verbal and non-verbal methods. Communication is the key to how life manages to survive in its environment.

Purpose of Communication

The purpose of any communication is to get the message across and to ensure that your intended meaning is expressed to your receiving audience. If a person is giving a speech, he needs to ensure that everyone is listening actively and try to make them participate in order to get feedback. Feedback identifies whether the message the speech is being understood or misunderstood.

Process of Communication

The communication process is a method which a sender and a receiver exchange information. It becomes effective when the message being sent is actually being understood by the receiver. The process of communication involves a sender, a receiver, a channel, a feedback, noise, and destination. The sender is the person who is encoding and putting his ideas in the message. His ideas then need to somehow be transported to the desired receiver. It is here that a choice of medium or channel is selected such as audio, video, or text. Once that is established, the sender transports his message and it's on its way to the receiver. If the message reaches its destination, the receiver will have the message. If the receiver is able to comprehend the message, he may send a feedback response through the same channel used to the original sender. If the message is not interpreted well, it is usually due to noise. Noise can be any distraction, disruption, or imbalance that affects the atmosphere of the medium while the message is being transported to the receiver.

One Way Communication (Linear)

One way communication is where the sender transports a message to the receiver and does not require feedback. This means that the information being sent is not checked for accuracy. It is just one way and from sender to receiver; receiver has no importance but to receive the message.
