About 75 percent of the children entered in foster care home belong to 0-3 years of age, and fifteen percent of these children are newborn babies. Children living their lives in foster home are distant from their parents because respectable judges think that it is not safe for these children to lead their lives at home due to diversified reason (Smariga, 2007).
On the other hand, children who are separated from home, particularly infant children are open to the new danger, particularly the negative impact on personality due to separation. However, reaction of children depends on their age at the time of separation, for instance children separated at a younger would know the reason of this incident, and based on their mental strength would react accordingly (Browne, 2009).
Whereas, children separated at a younger age remain in the foster house for longer period of time, which increases the level of dangers for that children. Therefore, it is important to arrange frequent visits with parents for infant and toddler child.
Based on observation about 400,000 children are annually sent to foster, and about 50 percent of the children are of age 0-3. Further, about more than 15 percent of children are delivered to foster homes at the time of their birth, and 33 percent are sent during the period of 1-3. In addition to this, about 80 percent of infant children in 2008 were reported to suffer ill-treatment at foster home (Smariga, 2007).
Moreover, children of infant age is considered to spent more time in foster house as compare to other children, and it is also observed that 80 percent of infant children are adopted rather than reunified with birth parents. This step could have a negative impact on the future life of infant children, as there is a possibility that foster parents might not able to provide that kind of love and affection that original parent might give.
Medically and scientifically first few years of child life describes the time of unparallel growth. As describes a children experience, and relationship learned during the initial period of life plays a vital role in social, moral, and ethical development of the children. Further, infant children are reliant on the adults present around their life, and love and affection these children received from adults are backbone of their future development (Danielson & Lee, 2010).
After birth a child within few months begin to express its affection towards father or mother, further after approx four months they start to communicate their affection through their unique behavior like (smiling, moving, and crying). However, as they become older they react during the process of separation from parents, and in fact may protest when reuniting with their parents because of anger or frustrations.
