The Pap test is a pre cancerous test designed to detect cancerous processes in the reproductive system of females. This cancer, at the pre cancer stage, resides in the transformation zone. The test is also known as Pap smear or cervical smear. Most of the cases of cancer are caused by HPV and oncogenic infection. There are 12 types of HPVs that have been regarded as high risk. Most of these viruses are sexually transmitted. Other than the cervical cancer, these sexually transmitted HPVs can lead to vaginal cancer, anal cancer and penile cancer.
