CHAPTER 1: INTRODUCTION

Background of the Study

The increasing trends of obesity in society are becoming a major public healthcare issue, which influences the normal social, psychological and physical wellbeing of people. Obesity produces negative impact on health of women in many ways and increases their chances to acquire diabetes and cardiovascular diseases. Women with obesity have high risk for joint and bones pain. Furthermore, the global rate of obese people with respect to the women has enhanced greatly and is covering the age group of women with reproductive concerns and thus, creates harmful consequences for foetal and maternal healthcare issues. The most common reason for obesity among women is maternal obesity. Therefore, good management regarding to foetal and neonatal healthcare is recommended in order to fulfil the gaps in obesity management by identifying issues which can be addressed for meeting potential scope of studies (Krishnamoorthy, et.al, 2006).

Obesity is also responsible for producing different types of cancers among women and the most common type is the breast cancer, which is the significant attribute of obesity due to the excessive intake of fats, nutritional status, and existing body fats and some dietary components. For that reason, the study reading poor management of obesity among women can be also linked with the deficiencies of nutritional aspects (Amaral, et.al, 2010).
