Introduction

"Love has no awareness of merit or demerit; it has no scale, Love loves; this is its nature." - Howard Thurman

Love is an unexplainable force of nature. Mankind might try to command it, demand it or make it disappear, but the force is extremely overpowering and nobody has any command over it. Love is something people have failed to define time after time, it is an emotion that has no definition, and love exists in numerous entities and forms. Love is eternal, surreal and pure. Love is what keeps the world together; it keeps our hearts alight and is our savior when we might need peace.

Love is categorized into three different entities: lust, romance and attachment. Lust is merely sexual indulgence it doesn't have the emotional connectivity love has. Romance is much more powerful it is extremely difficult to control and has the strongest hold on people. Attachment is a feeling of closeness and trust. But in which ever state it may be, love is the most intense emotion.

In order to understand and further analyze this emotion, a qualitative research has been conducted and a majority of secondary data has been consulted for the purpose. We will be looking into 2 poem and 2 short stories to understand the implications of love The poems are “Sex without Love” by Sharon Olds, and “The River Merchants Wife: A letter” by Ezra Pound. The two short stories are “Hills Like White elephants” and “What we talk When We Talk About Love”.

Thesis Statement

How can love be contained into a phrase, a word or even an essay, love is too diverse and every person has a different meaning to love, Let us examine some literary masterpieces in order to comprehend better.
