Explanation of the course and homework assignment

To assess ability to work at the intersection and to create and apply innovation values. This homework assignment required to conduct an interview from three individuals. The interview can be conducted in a number of ways (from formal to informal) that can be face-to-face, video or phone interview. The learning obtained from this activity will help the student in completing this innovation project.

Brief description of the mobile app

The act of taking vital signs normally entails recording body temperature, pulse rate or heart rate, blood pressure, and respiratory rate, but may also include other measurements. Vital signs often vary by age (Free Encyclopedia, 2013). Monitoring of vital parameters most commonly include at least a heart rate, and preferably also pulse oximetry and respiratory rate. Multimodal monitors that simultaneously measure and display the relevant vital parameters are commonly integrated into the bedside monitors in critical units, and the anesthetic machines in operating rooms.

This mobile app allows for continuous monitoring of a patient, with medical staff being continuously informed of the changes in general condition of a patient. For my innovative mobile app, I selected this vital signs camera app from Philips iPad 2 app. The vital signs camera app uses the iPad's camera to detect changes in chest movement and facial color, measuring breathing and heart rates in seconds.

How will this Mobile App address a Problem

At Worcester Polytechnic Institute release reports that a team led by Ki-Chon, a professor and head of Biomedical Engineering at WPI, has developed a smart phone application that can measure not only heart rate, but also heart rhythm, respiration rate and blood oxygen saturation using the phone's built- in video camera. The new app yields vital signs as accurate as standard medical monitors now in clinical use. This gives a patient the ability to carry an accurate physiological monitor anywhere, without additional hardware beyond what I already included to discuss, in many consumer mobile phones.

One of the advantages of mobile phone monitoring is that it allows patient to make a baseline measurement at any time, building a database that could allow for improved detection of disease status. Chon, who is also an expert on signal processing, has primarily developed algorithms that monitor a range of vital signs. Chon and his team created and adapted algorithms to process the data gathered by the phone's video camera.

Purpose of the Philips Vital signs Camera
