Abstract

In this research paper the potential risk factors are highlighted due to the excessive use of mineral and vitamin supplements. These supplements are of great importance for us only when we badly need them otherwise they do not provide any positive effects on human health. It can give deadly affect on human health if not taken under the guidance of a doctor or nutritionist. Vitamins and mineral supplements are also known as dietary supplements. There are some extreme cases in which a person cannot survive if he/she does not get the necessary vitamins and minerals. As we all know that surplus of everything is terrible, same is the case if a person over consumes vitamins and mineral supplements he/she can have many side effects.

In relation to the above stated thesis statement, this research paper is based on the side effects or health risks attached with the un-required usage of the Mineral and Vitamin Supplement. It has been observed that consumers start using Vitamins and Mineral supplements without the consultation of nutritionist, due to this they face after effects. No doubt, Minerals and Vitamins are the two vital micronutrients, which can help in keeping our body functions proper and they support in attaining good health for those people who cannot get it directly from food sources. It is due to high deficiency level of the essential mineral and vitamins that helps in maintaining normal health. Although it is a misconception that vitamins and minerals need cannot be fulfilled only by having healthy food. Dietary supplements are not required by the huge number of people to gain nutritionally sufficient diet because it can be toxic. It is highly recommended not to take any of these supplements without the prescription of your physician. There are some extreme cases in which a person cannot survive if he/she does not get the necessary vitamins and minerals. As we all know that surplus of everything is terrible, same is the case if a person over consumes vitamins and mineral supplements he/she can have many side effects. Those side effects may include Nausea, Vomiting, Neurological disorders, Kidney Stones and Toxicity.

There is huge number of people who think that they a need vitamin and mineral supplements every day in order to maintain good health. According to a survey, it is found that almost one-fourth of the adult Americans take vitamins supplements on regular basis, which mainly includes minerals and iron supplements. The common users of these supplements were pregnant women, elders and small children. ( Huang, 2006)
