Abstract

An information system plays an important role in businesses. For the purpose of this assignment I will be discussing the VOIP network implementation in any business organization. Prior research studies concluded that the characteristics of organization influence adoption behaviors. Our companies IT department have suggested that factors, such as size, type and nature of business are basic attributes affecting organizational innovation. To increase pressure to improve department performance we need to use external sources of knowledge were found to be significant. It appears the internal demand of an organization is a key factor to influence the decision to adopt a new technology or application. The culture of an organization is a very important factor to the adoption of an innovation whereas the support from top managers is also very important for an organization to adopt a new technology.

Introduction

This proposal will attempt to address the benefits and the limitations to the implementation of a Voice over Internet Provider (VoIP) telephony communication system. The advantages include a new versatility never known to the traditional Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) and a cost savings due to the efficient nature of packet-switched telephony. VoIP applications can satisfy many features of the PSTN system such as voice and fax, but can also expand communication into new areas for business telephony. Voice over Instant Messenger to expand the IM medium and Push-to-talk for lower bandwidth calls where quality is not a priority. Perhaps the most beneficial application for business applications will be in conferencing. The redundant nature of VoIP calling will allow voice message information to be encoded and then copied to every recipient while keeping bandwidth requirements on the network low (Weinstein, 2009).

Within the challenges of new technology there is a continuous increase in the administration officials, their subsequent conversion, and the eventual benefits is experienced within all organizations. The requirement of information technology within our organization encountered considerable resistance when it first proposed the migration of its Centrex based phone service to VoIP implementation (Stalk, 2000).

The first appearance of VoIP technology goes back to 1995, when a small company called Vocaltec released the first internet phone software. Business analysts all over the world are extremely excited about the latest development of the internet protocol (IP) telephony technology as witnessed by the skyrocketing stock price of the few companies that have control over this technology. It is believed that this technology would lead to the complete replacement of the traditional telephony systems in the next ten to 15 years, which implies billions of dollars to be spent on technology diffusion, adoption, and implementation. Our company needs to focus on implementation of new VoIP system for 100 employees which are in much need of connecting with each other and our out of station office.
