Ali Canip Yöntem (1887-1967) who is one of the prominent names of the national literary movement provided many works relating to literary theory and criticisms as well as poems. Before being connected to national literary, the author who has largely been seeking on the line extending from Muallim Naci to Cedideci (New Literature movement) and Fecr-i Aticis (Dawn of the Future) has deep thoughts in his many articles that will light the way for today's artists and researchers either due to his command of our classical literature or of Western Literature. From his writings in question, in our paper, opinions of Yöntem about some matters such as what is the art and literature, why it is existing, what could be its power and effect, how to take advantage of art and literature, the place and importance of the imitation in art, pleasure, beauty, perception and genius concepts, purpose of art, relationship between artist and school of art, art and dialectic, poem and knowledge, poem and sensation etc. were scanned and these opinions were altogether attempted to be assessed. Apart from these, problems collected under some titles such as what, in fact, is the concept of national literature and how it should be understood, our mistakes when assessing the concept “national”, dimensions of artist and public when assessing within the context of national literature have been the topic of the Ali Canip Yöntem's articles and opinions of author about these issues were attempted to be examined by us. Yöntem also referred to the problems about limits of literary criticism and features which a reviewer must have, and attached importance to the relationship of literary criticism with literary text.Table of Contents

Background to Turkish Literature
Turkish literature is comprised of both written texts as well as oral compositions in the Turkish language. Much of the literature is present in the Ottoman Turkish Language which had greatly been influenced by Arabic as well as Persian languages. The time frame of the Turkish literature goes back to around 1200 years. Orhon Inscriptions were the initial written literature and were found in the Orhon River Valley in Central Mongolia. This dated back to eight century. The poetry of the Turkish began in 1911 with the national literature movement. Ali Canip Yontem also had a hand in this movement. The poetic history of Turkish is a continuing tradition of the Ottoman Empire. The Syllabist movement is also known as one of the most inspiring poetic traditions of the time. This also emerged from the National Literature Movement. The Turkish poetry is considered to be not as recognized as it should have been in the past as well as the present.
