The Impact of Transportation Technology

Introduction

This paper will present Society and Technological Change within “U.S. Department of Transportation,  USA. The paper presents a brief overview of the transportation sector, the impact of technology, history and/or evolution of the technology on the U.S. Department of Transportation, Social and ethical ramifications of technology that the U.S. Department of Transportation may be propagating.

About U.S. Department of Transportation (U.S DOT)

Problem of the Study

This paper will be discussing the technological advances in transport system which is being monitored by the U.S department of Transport. Nowadays urban traffic is complicated in most metropolitan areas in developed countries where congestion has become a daily problem difficult to solve. It is an issue that causes undesirable effects on the mobility of drivers and pedestrians (Conroy, 2000). Failure of public transport schedules, increased travel time by public transport and private, air pollution and noise levels intolerable that they affect health are seriously some of these effects.

Evolution of the Technology

One of the most efficient answers to the problem of congestion is in the intensive use of computer systems and telecommunications applied to traffic management (Guston, 2002). Indeed, the so-called “Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS)”, are becoming an efficient support for citizens and public institutions in an attempt to alleviate the congestion problems and inter-urban transport, not only helping to improve their mobility, but making more sustainable (Claramunt & Jiang, 2000). A brief statement of the issue of these systems in regard to new contributions developed in recent years and its main applications will be the focus of this ...
