Theoretical Context of Positive Behavioral Support
Theoretical Context of Positive Behavioral Support
Introduction
This paper intends to discuss the theoretical context of positive behavioral support. Positive Behavioral Support (PBS) is defined as a process to understand and resolve the problematic behavior of children that is apparently based over the values and underlying empirical research. The background sources from which PBS has emerged will be explored in the paper. Moreover, the Grounded Theory of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) will also be included in this paper. Lastly, the significance of various terms like shaping, fading, chaining and reinforcements in relation to PBS will be explored. The purpose of this paper is to make the reader aware about various important aspects of PBS.
Discussion
Positive Behavioral Support Systems (PBS)
Positive Behavioral Support (PBS) is defined as a process to understand and resolve the problematic behavior of children that is apparently based over the values and underlying empirical research. This support system is considered extremely important for the development of an understanding approach of various reasons because of which children usually get engages in problematic behavior (Melaville & Blank, 1993). Moreover, this approach offers various strategies which help the prevention of occurrence of problematic behaviors within children. Teaching children the new skills through utilization of positive behavioral support system makes it extremely easy for children to get engage in the process of learning without depicting problematic behaviors (Friend & Cook, 1992).
Positive Behavior Support System provides a holistic approach to deal with the problematic behaviors of children. It considers all the important factors that contribute towards the problematic behavior of children. This support system is used extensively to cater the problems related to the behaviors of children. The aggressive behavior of children, their tantrums and most importantly the property destruction behavior that results in social withdrawal can easily be address through utilizing this positive behavior support in teaching children. The important terms like shaping, fading and chaining plays a significant role in reinforcing positive behaviors within children. All these methods are extremely helpful to shape the behaviors of children positively (Harry, 1992).
PBS is considered as an applied science which engages the educational methods to evaluate and expand the behaviors. This approach is capable to redesign the living environment of individuals thus catering towards the positive behavior attainment. It is also important to realize what positive behavior actually is. Positive behavior refers to the personal satisfaction in social, family, academic ...
