CHAPTER 1: INTRODUCTION

Background of the Study

Coronary Artery Bypass Graft Surgery; also known as CABG surgery, is identified as being attached with severe medical consequences even when the patient has undergone the respective surgery in order to revert the initial condition pertaining to the coronary artery they were suffering from. Risk stratification thus has been attempted by many researchers to probe into pertaining to the preoperative preparation for Coronary Artery Bypass Graft (CABG) Surgery, where one of the research studies that are conducted in the domain; which was focused on Atrial Fibrillation (AF) as a consequence of CABG, indicated that it possesses an incidence rate of approximately 20 to 40% in the patients who undergo CABG. Coronary Artery Bypass Graft (CABG) Surgery is as implied in the term a surgical procedure where as a result of one or more blockage(s) that are caused in the coronary arteries, coronary arteries are bypassed through the implantation of a blood vessel graft in an attempt to restore the normal blood flow rate towards the heart of the subject/ patient. The grafts of the blood vessels are usually attained from the very own arteries or the veins of the patient, that could be located either in the arm, legs or the chest of the patient, in an attempt to ward off the risk that could be triggered if patients' body fails to accept the graft as belonging to that of the foreign body. Hence, for the development of the grafts pertaining to the blood vessels, patients' own arteries or veins are preferred because they would provide the match-able blood vessel for the artery that is required to be substituted or bypassed, and matches are usually preferred for the grafts that are implanted as they would be more functional and effective.

Coronary Artery Bypass Graft Surgery is also known as the Bypass Operation is primarily undertaken to restore the blood supply of the patient to his/ her heart, as already mentioned above, which connotes the importance and significance of this surgical procedure. Not only does that it restores the normal rate of the blood flow towards the heart of the patient who is undergoing the surgical procedure or is about to be subjected to the CABG surgery, but it also is associated with the relief pertaining to the chest pain as well as that of Ischemia. Furthermore, patients' quality of life is also elevated whilst in some cases it is also associated with the elongation of the life of the patient. These are the goals that the CABG surgery is intended to achieve when the goals are seen at par with the patient, where the main goal is the elevation and improvement of the quality of the life of the patient. Coronary Artery diseases are intended to be averted or reverted through the employment of ...
