The Hiring Of Convicted Felons

Introduction

The paper will discuss the hiring of convicted felons by using the mixed research methods; i.e., the combination of qualitative and quantitative research techniques. Later on, the paper will provide annotated bibliography on the articles which describe the hiring of convicted felons.

Finding a good job in the job market of this time has become difficult for even the most educated and experienced people. However, no person experiences this thing more than a person who comes out of the prison after many years. These criminals are the people who made a mistake in life; however, even after serving the sentence, they have to carry the label around of the prisoner which punishes them for their whole lives.

Though, the justice system is established for the punishment and rehabilitation purposes of these criminals, but rehabilitation is something which needs to have more than a program of general educational development and a few more courses as well. It needs assistance of employers and communities. These convicted felons are able to do any type of work that an employer may want. It just needs the employers to look beyond the label of prisoner and give them a chance to work.

Purpose of the Study

In any organization, the recruitment of the convicted felons has become a difficult process. The stereotype labeled on the convicted felons is not always positive. As a result, there are very less opportunities of employment available for these people. To prevent this difficulty, the organizations must provide equal opportunities to every employee they hire or about to hire. It is necessary for the organizations for following the considerations while recruiting people. The methods used for the process of recruitment should be just and fair.

How can companies combat the difficulties linked with the hiring processes of convicted felons?

We will use mixed research method approach for researching; i.e., qualitative and quantitative research methods. In the qualitative research, we would be interpreting and describing the social phenomenon from the perspective of internal research subjects. The qualitative approach is characterized by much greater openness and flexibility. Its methods are explorative and are further developed during the investigation process. On the other hand, the quantitative research primarily helps in answering the questions such as, 'how much', 'what' and 'when'. They are usually carried out on a relatively large sample of respondents, the most representative of the target population and allow obtaining of the generalization of results and the use of a series of statistical analysis.
