Introduction

The protection of critical infrastructure is a concern of the United developed. The high level of development of Western societies rests on it's mostly in a series of basic and essential services whose provision lies mostly in the private sector. Ensuring security of supply of these basic services to new threats is a responsibility not only of the government but require awareness and collaboration private operators. This paper introduces the concept of critical infrastructure and treatment internationally and nationally. United States has been on the target of terrorism since a long period of time. Advancement is one of the major reasons why United States is exposed to terrorist attacks. The nation is facing security threats which should be looked after in order to protect the country. The war against terrorism which started after the 9/11 attacks, poses great threats to the US homeland.

It's a daunting task trying to protect society against many threats, unpredictable and unimaginable. This requires cooperation, share information, evaluate potential risks and prioritize and allocate human, material and economic rationally. Our challenge is to protect society from potentially unlimited risks and threats, but with material resources, limited human and financial, and this is only possible through the coordination of efforts among all stakeholders. This is precisely the foundation and momentum that seeks the LPIC 8/2011.

The National Critical Infrastructure Protection contains those institutions, bodies and companies from both the public and private sectors, with responsibility for the proper functioning of essential services or the safety of citizens. It is noteworthy in this PIC system the role critical operators, i.e. those managing at least one critical infrastructure. The National System should define the set of strategies and initiatives necessary to direct and coordinate activities of the various bodies responsible. To this end, the system will encourage collaboration and involvement of the managing bodies and owners of such infrastructure in order to optimize the degree of protection and contribute to the security of the population.
