The book starts with the discussion on the purpose of the book, the intervention by the author into the lives of the people and a perspective towards the intrusion of healthy sex unto the relationship of marriage. According to the author, when the prospective of healthy sex within their lives are obtained then the relationship faces a transition process in which the couples have to identify that the ways in which the sexuality does not become a burden on them rather a gift that could transform and change their lives. This part of the book describes that the manual provided by the bible is not enough or the bible is not the book that could necessarily provide the sexual functioning to the people. However, the bible mat provide some really important perspectives of sexuality to the couples in marriage because it highly regards the marital sex as the most pleasurable and cherished part in the lives of people (Penner, 2003, pp.311).

The other part of the first section, “the biblical perspective” is the biblical expectations. The authors in the book assert the notion that pleasure and sexuality in a marriage is not merely a gift but it is an expectation that is derived from the relationship of marriage (Penner, 2003, pp. 398).
