Introduction

Jimmy Carter, the thirty ninth president of United States was born in Plains, October 1, 1924. His childhood was in Georg where he attended the public schools. He also attended Institute of Technology in Georgia before he went to the US Naval Academy. Jimmy Carter graduated from the Institute in 1946. In 2002, he also receives a Nobel Peace Prize (Dumbrell, 1995). He is the only one in the list if US president who was awarded after leaving the office.

In 1976, Jimmy Carter declared his candidacy for the Democratic presidential nomination. His popularity was at its peak by 1980 and was able to stand against Ted Kennedy for the nomination of Ted Kennedy in 1980s' election, but was defeated by the republic candidate, Ronald Reagan. In 1981, Jimmy Carters' term came to an end.

Diplomatic efforts

Jimmy Carter served as a Democrat. As the President, during his time period he developed two effective cabinet level departments; The Department of Education and The department of Energy. His contribution to the national energy policy covered many aspects such as innovative technology, conservation and price control (Byrne, et.al 2006). Concerning the foreign affairs, Jimmy Carter opted for Camp David Accords, SALT II that is the Strategic Arms Limitation Talks the second round and Panama Canal Treaties. During his term he faced the international inflation and stagnation which prevail throughout his time period. Jimmy Carter's famous works include Iran hostage crisis, Soviet invasion of Afghanistan, Three Mile Island nuclear accident and the energy crisis 1979.

North Korea in 1994 was threatening processing nuclear fuel and had expelled investigators from the Atomic Energy Agency. To combat, the president at that time, Clinton, forced US sanctions and pressurized large vehicles and troops in the area in the suspicion of war. Jimmy Carter was undertaken secretly by Bill Clinton to carry out mission on peace with North Korea. Carter was successful in negotiating with the Kim II sung leading him to back down. Later Agreed Framework Treaty was signed which strengthened the diplomatic relations. During the time of George W Bush, the treaty was violated as North Korea had some disputes with the Bush Administration. In 2010, Jimmy Carter visited North Korea to make betterments in the relationship and also gain the release of Aijalon Mahili Gomes. He was citizen of United States and was found guilty of surpassing North Korea illegally. Gnomes was punished with hard labor of eight years. However, Jimmy Carter's diplomacy made the release secured successfully.

Genva Accord was a model agreement of peace assisting Palestinians and unofficial Israeli developed by Jimmy Carter and the Carter Centers' experts. Though he has expressed his support for the country Israel but on occasions has also criticized on the foreign and domestic policy of Israel (Byrne, et.al 2006). He also showed concern for the Palestinian children as their nutritional intake in lower than of the Sub Saharan African claiming Israel as the supine position of European.
