The Cold War

Introduction

The Cold War, which began after World War II and lasted until 1980 geopolitical rivalry between the U.S. and the Soviet Union on the ground in the ideological rivalry between capitalism and communism. The Cold War was concerned about the external and internal threats to American power, social stability and security, and, in particular, the abundance of materials, lifestyles, middle class, and cultural norms of masculinity. Guided by the fear of castration, feminization and homosexuality, the Americans with anxiety defined their nation and their way of life in a culturally associated with masculinity, including energy, diplomatic and military power, economic success, sexual and physical power, moral rectitude and patriotism (Epstein, 21-44).

Postwar Anxieties

Important basis of Cold War anxiety fear that the defining features of American life has become so weak American men and nations, so the idea and cannot cope with the threat of Soviet communism at home and abroad. So often controversial American commentators 1940 and 1950 identified the sources of wealth as weakness after the compliance (and inconsistencies), excessive maternal neglectful parents, government paternalism and business, and rampant homosexuality (which Alfred Kinsey's "Sexual Behavior in the Human Male (1948) were much more widespread in American society more than they thought). Corporate capitalism, in particular, problems encountered anxiety (Dudziak, 105).

Bureaucratic and regulated jobs, the critics seem to undermine the courage of U.S. men. This suggests that American men were strangers, and castrated by the company and the country life, C. Wright Mills, White Collar (1951) and William H. White 'S of the people (1956) argued that masculinity can be said on the basis of independence, self-determination and exercise of power (Cuordileone, 515-545).
