In order to better understand the phenomena being studies, the reader needs to understand the context of the study in detail for which rich narrative descriptions are required that is one of the key characteristic of qualitative research. How and why behaviors occur is focused by the process orientation which is also a key characteristic of qualitative research studies. From synthesizing gathered information, generalizations are induced by the inductive data that are another key characteristic of qualitative research. Quantitative analysis and quantitative data are both sometimes involved in qualitative research. In comparison to other research orientations, like historical study and philosophical analysis, qualitative research includes its original sense.
