On the 1st of December 1955, Mrs. Rosa reserves, an African-American seamstress, were detained in Montgomery, Alabama for not standing and letting a white omnibus rider take her seat. It was an "established direct" in the American south that African-American riders had to sit at the backside of the bus. African-American riders were in addition foretold to submit their armchair to a white trainer rider if it was needed.
