As the globalization became a popular issue nowadays, the possibility of people who speak other languages increased. Because the United States of America is an enormous economic country, there are so many immigrant people come to the USA each year. The immigrants have to learn the official language of this country, which is English. Most of the immigrant usually known two languages, one of them called mother tongue or the first language and the second one named the second language. The children who came from an immigrant family have to learn English to study in mainstream schools. They usually use their mother language in home, as well. According to the national center for education statistic that the number of school-age children between (5-17) who speak another language in home increased from 4.7 million in 1980 to 11.2 million in 2009 (Fast Facts). The children who speak more than a language have the benefit to have advantage more than other children. They can have a healthy brain, more ability to educate their self, more benefits to have jobs in the future. Finally, we have to ask our self a question, which is “Do we have to raise our children with two languages?

What is Bilingualism?

Bilingualism is the ability to use, or the regular use of, two languages with advanced proficiency and nearly equal fluency in each language. Bilingualism is broadly classified into simultaneous bilingualism, in which a person is introduced to two languages concurrently, and sequential bilingualism, in which a person is introduced to a second language after having been introduced to a first language by the nature of the acquisition process (Jim, 127). Simultaneous bilingualism refers to childhood bilingualism as a result of exposure to two languages in roughly the same degree from birth or very early childhood. There are many definitions of bilingualism, some of them are wrong and others are based on myths. A person does not have to speak two languages with equal fluency to say who is bilingual and is very common that can be expressed in both languages with some ease and without being noticed an accent that betrays. However, even if people realize one of the two languages is dominant, they only feel emotionally comfortable in one of them and only the dominant language may make creative work worthwhile (Hakuta, 33).

People may be able to write business letters in either language without much difficulty, but will be difficult to literature.
