The Effect of Television Violence on Children

Abstract

This study aims at investigating the effect of television violence on children. It was identified that in childhood, there is a need to observe children like and dislikes towards watching television. They should appreciate when they watch informative and learning programs. Children attention should be shifted from violent programs as to save them from aggressive behavior. Parent is the major source of controlling such behaviors. They do not watch violent programs, so their children did not develop a habit to watch more violent television program. In this study, we have identified that the portal of violent television program. There are different types of television programs that are being watched by children and its effect on children. Some functions of media are highlighted and its impact on real life situations. Besides this effect of television violence on children and how parents control this issue in children. There are certain ways to overcome the situation on the part of parents. Correlation and longitudinal studies was assessed as to identify children violent television programs will lead towards aggressive behaviors.

Introduction

In daily life children sees or hear things it has a great impact on children life. Children are interested in watching television. They watch the programs that they like to watch. They have no concern that either they are watching peaceful or violent programs. According to parents children watch violent programs on television so they should limit their exposure to violent TV programs (Tompkins, 2003). It was identified that the effects of television are good and bad both. It can be entertaining and educational. It can be open a new world for kids. Television gave a chance to children for the exposure of new things in life. They get awareness for adopting new life styles. Researchers suggest that media has not only a negative impact but it affect viewers in both positive and negative manner depending upon viewers perceptions (Boyse, 2010).

The idea is that children understand television at the age of three. They imitate the things that they watch on television. Children usually watch television for about 2 hours per day. By the age of five children watch television four hours a day. During adolescence, the average time for watching television is drop down to two to three hours a day.
