Introduction

Recent advances in the arena of high technology gadgetry, software, and hardware efficiently allow the police departments to gain critical advances in the areas of response times, productivity, and safety. The job of police officers is most demanding in maintaining law and order conditions of any place. They have to perform a variety of tasks in an orderly manner. Therefore, to cope with the job requirements in an efficient way, recently, police agencies, have started relying on advanced technology (Police Executive Research Forum, 2011). The use of advanced gadgets and other technologies help the police personnel to compete with the criminals in effective and efficient manner. The latest technologies include such as Smart sensors, cameras for recognizing license plates, Gun shot detectors, IP Based Surveillance Cameras, Virtual Patrol monitors, which play a vital role for the police department to mange crimes easily and timely. In this essay, I will discuss 3 latest technologies including Thermal Imagers (TI), Automated Fingerprint Identification System (TFS) and Gun shot detector.

Discussion

As the advancement of technology continues, the criminals equip with high technology weapons and communication tools. Also in addition to crime controlling, Police department is responsible for performing a large number of other tasks which are, all important. Since last few years the Police departments had an issue that their resources had become inadequate and unable to keep up with their excessive workloads. Thus they decided to deploy advanced technologies in the crime fighting strategies which may lower down their workloads and improve efficiency (Brakel R.V. and Hert P.D., 2011). The next section of the essay will describe few of the advanced technologies in use by the Police departments today for fighting with crime.
