The Outbreak of World War I

Introduction

The World War I took place in 1914. It continued till 1918. It is considered to be the worst destructive war in the history of mankind. The war killed 8.5 million natives and wounded around 20 million. This war devastated the whole empire along with the economy. The World War I was fought between the Triple Entente allies and Central allies. Europe's power was split into two halves; the Central Alliance and the Triple Entente. Central Alliance represented Germany, Austria-Hungary and Italy whereas the triple entente represented Russia, France and Britain. This division was because of the treaties signed between the European nations.

The reasons include the imperialistic and territorial enmity between Britain and Germany. It was followed by the severe tensions in Austria-Hungary and Franco Prussian Empire. Moreover, another cause of the outbreak was the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife (Remak). World War I immediately erupted after the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand. On 28th Jun, 1914, Bosnian Serb Gavrilo Princip killed Archduke Franz Ferdinand along with his wife, in Sarajevo, Bosnia. Archduke Franz was the heir to the Austro-Hungarian Empire.

Before the war, the European structure started to change, violence had been justified, and new cultures were confronting the existing social systems. The thoughts for nationalism and racism were widespread. In 1913, Europe was a tense place. Historians emphasize on the fact that the major population, of the countries involved in war, were against war. However, they considered it to be a necessary thing for expanding power and empire. It is also to be noticed that the arms manufacturers, industrialists and the capitalists did not support the government to declare war. Due to the decrease in the foreign market, industrialists had to suffer severely. Still, it that needs to be reconsidered as these countries would not be able to fight the war without the consent of those millions of soldiers who went in the war field.

The World War I was trench warfare. The army built trenches to save themselves from bullets and grenades. Sleeping quarters and other supplies were stored in the trenches. The reason for this slow war was these trenches. The war moved slowly due to slow advancement. During the war, on the other hand, gun machines were used. It was faster and easier to load. Therefore, it killed more people in a short span. Germans was the first ever nation that started controlling the waters through U-boats and submarines.

The Triple Entente had victory in World War I. Historians define United States to be the main reason for Triple Entente's victory. United States showed a late presence in the war. This late presence made United States supply fresh troops and arms in the war. This effort boosted the morale of Triple Alliance.
