Syrian Uprising

Introduction

Syrian uprising is an ongoing series of internal conflicts in Syria, which started in 2011 and continues to-date. The uprising has taken a number of lives and is a part of the overall upheaval in the Arab World. Starting point of this uprising were the public demonstrations, which started in the beginning of 2011and took the whole nation in its wake. The basic demand of the protestors was resignations of President Bashar al-Assad and they are up for overthrowing his government (the Ba'atha Party has been in rule for the past five decades). The uprising continued to grow, and the government, refusing to entertain the demand of people, deployed Syrian Army to quell the uprising. Regional Level Intervention:

The interventions in the area have been both at regional as well as international level. As mentioned earlier, whole world has been taking an interest in the changes and progress, in the uprising. Following are the reactions by the regional governments and leaders:

Arab League Attempts:

The Secretary General of the Arab League, Nabil Elaraby, presented the first call for ending violence in Syria on 7th August 2011, shortly after the uprising gained pace and government reverted to violent means to end it all. He focused on the deteriorating state of security in the area, which was due to the military operations in Hama and Deir al-Zor, accompanied by similar attempts and broad causalities in other areas too. He called for bringing an end to all the hostility and violence ...
