Child and youth mentoring services have had varying levels of success rates in the lives of young people, in which mentoring touches. Mentoring requires a relationship of coaching, counseling, and caring in order for the mentor and mentee to grow and develop together. The success rates of mentoring have been shown to vary. Such variables include, the age demographics and gender of the children in which mentoring was introduced, the duration and contact of the relationship between the child and mentor and the commonalities which are shared between the child and the mentor. The structure of the mentoring program also plays a pivotal role in the success of the matches, which are made. Furthermore, by having a mentorship program in place with youth and children, the positive effects in the long term, far outweighed the impact than having no mentorship program in place (Hayley, 2010).
