I began this Practicum in the regional hospital of the Valley View on 19 December, 2011 Monday morning. At that time, I was really very excited about my acceptance as an internee by the department of Human Resources. The timings for my shift were from 8 in the morning till 5 in the evening. The working days assigned to me were from Monday to Friday. On the first day of the Practicum, I was introduced to all the members of the HR staff. There were two types of generalists in the Human Resources department; Assistant Director, and Human Resources Director. Three people from that department were the graduates from the East Central University.
After, I met all the members of the HRD; I was awarded a badge with my name written on it, along with a parking permit. Then I was called by Katrina Simpson (Director of the Human Resources Department), she guided me to my individual working space and asked me to briefly read and understand the Handbook of the employees written by her, which defined the company's policy regarding its employees. Further, she requested me to correct the grammatical mistakes present in the handbook. The Handbook consisted of useful information, such as the message of the CEO, the statement regarding the vision of the organization. The Behavioral standards that the employees had to maintain, cultural diversity, providing an opportunity for equal employment, the code of conduct of the organization, methods for evaluation and promotions, and the educational opportunities that the organization was providing. The Handbook was written in a very professional manner.
The Handbook helped me a lot in understanding the policies and procedures of the Valley View Hospital. I was granted an Intranet access, for the completion of my next assignment, which consisted the information regarding the duties of employees working in the Health stream Learning Center. I found the software very interesting, all I had to do is to read the information available and then give the test. It was essential for all employees to pass this test before their training starts. Following are the list of 19 topics that were present in the lesson.
Violence at the workplace
Harassing someone sexually at the workplace
Rights of the patients
Transmission-Based Precautions: Blood Pathogen and Other Potentially Inflections Materials.

I took my time in reviewing the lessons, once I was done reviewing I gave the test, and passed it the first time. The main reason of my success was my notes that I took while I was reviewing the lessons. I was told by the employees of the VVRH that I passed the test in quick time. Further, they told it took most of them from two to three days to complete and pass the test successfully. It was a great learning experience for me to work at the VVRH. In my next assignment was to get familiar with Intranet software of the VVRH, to help me learn about the policies ...
