Introduction

Nokia was established by Fredrik Idestam in 1865, Idestam developed a wood-pulp mill in order to produce paper in Southern Finland, and the mill was located near the banks of river. Paper industry was at the top of all at that time. The company kept on manufacturing the paper and exporting it to France, United Kingdom and Russia. Later on, in 1967, “Nokia group” was found with the collaboration of 3 companies that merged with Nokia. In early 1970, they step ahead towards the telephone exchange that consisted of electro-mechanical analog switches. Based on the company's performance they soon developed network infrastructure supported with high-level computers. Nokia's move towards the mobile networking enabled the Nokia Mass production in mobile communication and soon became the leading cellular multinational company in 1981. Nokia is operating worldwide over 120 countries. The company has more than 132,000 employees working globally. It is the largest mobile manufacturing company in the world. Today “Nokia-Connecting People” is the slogan that known all over the world (Laitinen, 2005, pp. 325-339).

The discussion consists of the prospects and scope of the business environment with respect to Nokia in United Kingdom's market. It will also illustrate the core competencies, strengths and weaknesses of the company. In addition, Porter's five Forces framework and PESTLE will be critically analyzed.

Environmental and Geographical Analysis

Nokia is planning to start it manufacturing plant in United Kingdom, more specifically in England. They are focusing on developing new strategies in order to achieve the same position they have in other market like Asia, United States and Germany. In order to develop strategies, Nokia has considered all the parameters of environment and analyzed the situation with respect to internal and external environment. The detailed discussion comprises of core objectives and company's goals to enter and sustain in the market of England.

Goals and Objectives

The company needs to manufacture better mobile phones with great infrastructure. They need to assist people believe close to what matter to them. They need to capture the volume to connect billions of people and associate them with their slogan “Nokia-Connecting People”.

Strategies

Strategies are the key to achieve the stated objectives and goals of the company. According to some business leaders and scholars, no business can be successful without the presence of a successful strategy (Knight & Routti, 2011, pp. 117-144). The organizations should design their strategies considering all the parameters of risk, sustainability most importantly the environment. The environmental analysis should be considered as a main function, it should covers internal and external environment. External environment factors examine the threats and opportunities.
