Introduction

Lincoln city covers an area of 13.78sq miles and has 89,400 citizens residing in it. The population of the city consists of one half of the population of the city residing in it while the rest of the population which is employed here comes from the nearby cities. The scenic beauty of the city of Lincoln is a major source of employment for the employees who work in the tourism and hoteling industries and this geographic beauty of Lincoln has also led to the increase in the employment opportunities for the residents. The Health and safety team of Lincoln, namely city of Lincoln council's small food has been responsible for the overlooking of the safety of food products sold in the city and has been engaged in monitoring the safety of the food products of almost 1,000 businesses engaged in the production and sale of food products.

Need for organizational change

The organizational change is a very critical concern for the management of the business organizations of today. The organizations of today can experience change in a number of ways for example when the management changes the organizational strategy, increases or decreases the layers of management in the organization or changes the operational manner of the organization.

The case study highlights the fact that the Health and Safety team is analyzed by the manager, Sara Boothright, who says that the organization has had issues in the management. The manager also identified the organization to be having a structure which is too rigid to be changed. Therefore, for the organization to change, it has to have a structure which is very flexible and be able to fit in the context in which the organization operates. Moreover, the manager was found not to be playing the appropriate role which is expected of her in that managerial position. The organization had been operating without any focus on the customers and had no customer centered approach which rendered the organization unable to fit in the volatile environment. The solution to the management of change for the organization was to develop a deeper understanding of the services offered by the organization and to understand the issues that the organization is facing. The organization will also need to implement a lean operating structure which will be focused on the improvement of services offered by the organization, eliminating the waste that affects the operations of the business, improvement of the operations of the organization to enhance the value of the operations of the business and improvement of employee motivational levels (Carnall, C., 2007, p. 8).
