Introduction

Harrods is a departmental store located in London. It includes other enterprises as well such as bank, Estates and Aviation. It is considered as the second biggest retail store in United Kingdom.

Harrods was founded by Charles Harrods and established in 1824. He started the business from a sole room by hiring two assistants and a messenger. Harrods's son built the business into a flourishing retail operation selling perfumes, stationery, medicines, fruit and vegetables. Harrods quickly expanded, acquired the buildings and employed thousands of people by later. It is reported that on average 300,000 customers visit the Harrods on daily basis and comprising the highest percentage of customers from non-English speaking countries of any departmental store in London. Over the thousands of staff from over fifty different countries works at Harrods. More than five thousand staff from over fifty different countries works at Harrods.

Besides of the other businesses being run by Harrods; I have only focused on the departmental store business of Harrods. I am taking Harrods departmental store's business to India and this research has identified the factors that will encourage the growth of the business in India (Mumbai).

At Harrods, diversity is not to some extent but it values it most. Diversity is an important element which makes our company works and goes ahead. If a person joins Harrods team, it values the individual qualities and experiences which make you feel unique. After all company's customer come from all walks of life. Company pays importance to the perspectives of the employees, tastes and preferences. Harrods also believes in taking employees involved rather than just adding people in company. Company's management includes minorities as well as people belong from different races. Women are also encouraged to work with the company. Women possess executive positions. Diversity extends to the suppliers as well, their purchasers are from minorities and women owned businesses. Being different together. That works for Harrods.
