Introduction

The paper aims to review the studies with respect to the needs and support for special education teachers. It reviews eight different studies and provides a brief about the same.

A special education teacher works with students with a variety of disabilities. These can range from mild learning disabilities to severe mental retardation. Most special education teachers work with students with mild to moderate disabilities, modifying school curriculum to meet their educational needs.

The article outlines the needs, skills and exceptions that a special education requires. It also highlights the essentials and services of a special education teacher. Special education teachers provide a wide variety of services, depending on the school district and its own specialties. In large school districts can find more specialized special education teachers, while in a small, one special education teacher can provide students with a wide variety of disabilities. The services provided depend on the ages of children you teach, the severity of your disability, your school district, and individual needs of each child.

The paper by Fend et al holds significant importance it terms of training of special education teachers and tells about the essentials of classroom practice and achievement with regards to the special students. The author takes an approach of examining the impact of informal training, pre-service preparation and in-service formal training on the skills of the teachers in assuring academic achievement of students with disabilities. Using data of students over a period of five years, the author tries to estimate the value added models with respect to the student's achievement in Florida. It was observed in the study that there was not much efficiency witnessed in the in-service development program with respect to promoting special education but teachers with experience and advanced education were effective in improving mathematics of students. Pre-service preparation has also proved to be an effective method of training students while teachers with undergraduate and post graduate majors, certification in this field have shown positive correlation with the students' achievement.
