Sony Corporation is a Japanese multinational conglomerate. The corporation's headquarter is located in Tokyo, Japan. Sony is focused on the electronics, entertainment, games and financial services sectors. Sony is one of the leading manufacturers of electronics products. The company has made outstanding contributions in the global electronic market since its inception in 1946. Over the past years, Sony had developed and produced outstanding products. Since the start of 21st century, the company started failing a downfall. The downfall was because of several reasons like failing to adapt the changing consumer needs, economic recession, changing leadership and culture etc (Hofstede, 1994, 4-13).

Problems for Sony

Over the past few years, Sony has started facing serious problems. Following are some of the serious problems which Sony Corporation is facing.

Culture

The company has become an organization of silos and fiefdoms. The culture has become highly decentralized and different departments have started competing against each other. Japanese believe in collectivism rather than individualism (Black, 1988, 277-294). Since the culture has become decentralized, departments have been given the independence to work on their own. The collectivism approach has ended which has decreased the performance level of employees. We all know how big the brand name Sony has even after it has been removed by Samsung as the number one electronics company of the world. Due to share size of the company and its operations in different parts of the world, it had to adapt to cultures of different places it carried its business.

Since the Japanese believed in collectivist environment in their business dealings, it was hard for them to shift to any other type of culture.
