Sonny's blues

Sonny's blues is a book written by an author named James Baldwin. It is about a young boy sonny whose name the book is based on. It signifies he is the main character of the book. Sonny gets addicted to heroin and later on also gets arrested for not only using drugs but also supplying them. Once he is released from the jail he then returns back to his neighborhood in which he grew up in. The story is written in third person and the narrator of the story is sonny's older brother who sonny moves in with.

The story begins with the narrator who reads about his brother being arrested. The author shows that the narrator is shocked throughout his time during the day as he keeps wondering and worrying about his brother, he also compares sonny to the boys to whom he teaches. At the end of the day he encounters one of sonny's old friends and that friend confesses that he think he is responsible for the condition of sonny today. He explained how good he feels when he gets high as he himself was a heroin addict, and he tries to explain the narrator the pleasure he feels to be on drugs. And through this friends sonny might has also started taking drugs, hence the reason why he think he is responsible. The narrator gets frustrated and furious after hearing this. The guy tells the narrator that his brother will soon be released from jail and he will then be sent to rehab. The writer also shows that since sonny's friend himself is an addict he asks for money from the narrator.

The narrator also shares his sorrow with the readers that he hasn't contacted his brother since a few years and that they have been out of touch, after a few days the narrator finally contacts sonny, the reason behind the contact was grace the daughter of ht narrator who died. Sonny also replies to his brother's email and lets him know that the email made him feel like a bastard. And his letter is considered to be heart wrenching not only for the narrator but also the readers. He shares his sorrow on not being aware on how he ended up in this position, and he also mentions that he is happy their parents are dead since they wouldn't have to face and see ...
