Social Support

Answer #01

Social support is an important factor in the research of the occupational stress and results that personality plays a significant role in reducing the stress. Perceived reciprocity regarding social support among the individual in a work environment is usually seems to be more benefited. Lack of the reciprocity of a certain type of a social support can results into the negative effects i.e. an individual remains under benefited or over benefited are related to the general negative effects and are independent of the consequences of the perceived work related stress (Bowling et.al. 2004, p.339-350).

Support and relationships with the contemporaries are perceived to be more reciprocating than with the superiors. Social support significantly influences the stressing situations of an individual at work. It has shown its potential positive effects on individuals resulting into their stress aversive reaction to the work place stressors and environment (Jang, 2009, p.93-104). The research on the moderating possessions of social support has not yet provided the strong supportive reasoning. The three commonly identified forms of the social and the emotional support that an individual can give and receive is primarily related to the conversational content of the people in the situation of stress or in a work environment (Mutkins et.al. 2011).

Personality and the reciprocity have significant roles in giving & receiving social support in a working environment. Related to reciprocity, specificity appears for types of the social support that an individual can receives and gives in different communication forms. Different types of the social support can help people, and the personality plays the most important role in that (Jang, 2009, p.93-104).

Personality, affective conversational tone and discussions on stressing factors help reducing the work stress. The type of the social support that is being given or received should be related to the type of the personality. We tend to reciprocate the extroversion by the three forms of the conversational contents discussed above. This form of the social support is very helpful. As indicated in the study the extroversion is mainly related to receipt of both positive jobs related support and non job social support (Mutkins et.al. 2011).

Conversations and discussions on the work related topic or on the negative or positive work aspects can help reducing the stressors. These conversations add value to the emotional support. (Bowling et.al. 2004, p.339-350).
