This purpose of this study is to know how the social support affects an athlete's development and his performance in sports. Social support is an exchange of resources enhancing the well-being and it is a concept of social support of the person as a social being. Thus, the relationships that provide people in different environments in which it operates are configured as the important and significant elements in meeting a set of functions that ultimately determine the existence of problems and helps in finding the solution. From the view point of sports, in turn the athlete through work can find a development and improvement in the performance. In this sense, the workplace offers the possibility of integrating people into groups, to provide status and social identification with other individuals and groups that can contribute to meeting the social needs of the athletes. Social support in relation to the sports is a relatively new concept as related to stress and overall health. Interest in this subject that is social support and athlete's development and performance comes from that social support that reduces stress, improves health and moderates the impact of stress on the performance of the athlete.

This is a concept that everyone understands in generic and intuitive way but when it comes to pass this general idea to the realization and specification of social support in sports and its impact on the development and performance of the athlete, it offers a specific description. The review of the literature on the subject and comparison of the definitions of this concept have been proposed evident the different types of social support that may exist and the various components that constitute it. From here it is the inevitable question that what types or forms of social support are particularly relevant and important for effects on the stress, health or relationship that took place due to the sporting activity. The importance of the definition is given because it just determining the specific aspect of the concept of social support and its measurement. Social support is defined by the presence or relative absence of resources for psychological support from significant others. It is the information that allows people to believe that the people around the athletes love them and are estimated and valued which belong to a network of communication and mutual obligations. It is degree to which basic social needs are met through interaction with others. Moreover, interpersonal transactions involving the expression of positive effect, affirmation or endorsement of the values ??and beliefs of the person or the provision of aid or assistance helps the athlete in getting developed and improver his performance.
