Abstract

In this paper, we try to focus on the Social Policy course in a Social Work program. The paper is to research and analyze in greater depth. The paper discussed one social issue that is Child Labor. Child labor policies develop to address the social problem and the paper analyzes the policy and relate with the problem. The paper also proposed a policy. The paper gives an overview of the policy. The paper highlights the policy. The paper explains social problems need to attempt to address. The paper discussed the policy in the historical context. The paper illustrates the policy in economic and political context. In the economic and political forces what are the have influenced the development of this policy is discussed. The paper also highlights the Manifest and Latent Functions. The paper also discussed about and their functions of the policy that people observe or expect and what functions are not intended or recognized? The paper focused on the Current Debate. The paper address following questions as well what arguments have been made for and against this social policy? What has been said by politicians, interests groups, intended beneficiaries, social policy experts? What ideological and values perspective have framed this debate? Finally I made some recommendations. The data for this research has been collected from the secondary source. The prevailing attitude of child protection advocates focused on rescuing children rather than addressing the social conditions, stresses, or lack of resources that may lead to mistreatment.

Introduction

Child Labor is an increasing social problem in the developing and underdeveloped countries. It affects mental, emotional and physical health of the slaved children. Several policies have been introduced which aim towards the eradication of child labor from its roots, stopping it wherever it is practiced and educating the children affected. All these steps are taken under the proper guidelines which help in controlling of this issue. Child labor is the part of Child maltreatment. The paper also highlights the factors that are associated with the Child Maltreatment (Jean, 1998).

Discussion

Child labor is a serious and growing problem in developing and under-developed countries. Many studies have shown the effects it has on the children working as labors. They include defective moral reasoning, impaired cognitive functions, inability to express emotions, disclosing the mistreatment if faced. Although the signs of mistreatment do not surface immediately, but they can be spotted in their adulthood.

Apart from emotional trauma, the physiological disturbances in working children include enuresis, insomnia and uncontrolled bowel movements. Physical abuse faced by these children manifests itself in the form of obvious injuries to the body. Apart from the physical impact, it damages their emotional content.
