CHAPTER 1: INTRODUCTION

Background of the Study

With the rapidly changing world of technology, the ways in which we interact with each other and engage in various activities, have changed drastically. Between all this, social media has emerged significantly, highly influencing the lifestyle of people and business activities.

Rationale of the Study

As social media has emerged significantly as one of the major part of the common man's life, it has also being incorporated by businesses in various fields. It was observed that the emergence of social media networks brought a set of new and unique opportunities with them. Thus, businesses decided to utilise this aspect of networking for providing a simplified platform for job seekers and provide a wider range of career opportunities (Bateman, 2008, 45). This platform was not only available for job seekers, but it was huge platform for employers providing them with immense ease of searching potential candidates. Organisations are increasingly switching over to social media for getting the right and potential candidate. The increasingly popular trend of social media being used for recruitment is largely led by the social media networks such as LinkedIn and Facebook.
