My Co-Op placement is in the organization called “Human Endeavour”. I visit this organization twice a week and work for the community build project. This organization is involved in various social service activities since 2004 and its vision is to bring innovation and improvement in the condition of community with advanced and innovative and non-traditional methods (www.humanendeavour.org). This organization works at the grass root level for the improvement in the community services, in the field of health, social care, and educations and different other social and community welfare services (www.humanendeavour.org). This organization is also very active in environmental preventions like, green energy projects and solar PV installation

I am associated with the social and health care services for the South Asian mothers. This deals with the better health and social care for the mothers and children. My supervisor and I educate mothers how to raise their children in two cultures. For this purpose I also interact with a number of people and during this placement I had an interaction with a South Asian mother and I came to know about the issues of these mothers concerning the education and upbringing of their children in two cultures.

One of the main concerns for the mother was that, it is a general concept that everyone wants their c child to follow their own culture. In multicultural environment, it is one of the major issues to make their child retain their own culture. If they make their child follow their own traditions and culture, then it is not good for the child as he cannot adjust in any other culture and he will feel alien. It is also difficult for the society to accept such people from different culture and this creates problem for the child.

As a social worker, it is one of my major responsibilities to look for the best solution for it and guide these mothers to raise their children in a way that their children not only follow their own traditions, but also adjust with the traditions of society. This is one strength of that I found during interaction with this mother. I realized that how better raising of these children in multicultural cultural society can make these children more productive for the society to end this cultural discrimination.

D Social Service Work skills required handling this situation, how they were helpful in these circumstances.

To deal with this situation, one of the most important social work skills is communicative skill. Effective communication is very important in all the social work interventions. Apart from this another important skill is community awareness and cultural diversity. This is very important for a social worker to understand the culture and traditions of different communities because it is very important to understand the perception of client.
