Semiotics

Semiotics is the study of signs and sign processes, designation, indication, likeness, metaphor, analogy and communication. It is very closely related to the field of linguistics as it studies the structure and meaning of language very specifically. It has three branches Semantics, Syntactics and Pragmatics. Semantic is the name given to the relation between signs they refer to different things. On the other hand, Syntactics means a relation among signs in formal structures, while Pragmatics is the study of relation between the signs and effects they have on the people who use them.

Semiotics is the study that focuses on different logical dimensions of Science. It focuses on areas that belong to natural sciences. It takes sign systems as their main object of research, while the communication of information in living organisms comes under the study of zoosemiosis and biosemiotics.

Syntactics branch of Semiotics deals with the properties of symbols and signs. It deals with the rules and ways on how words combine to form phrases and sentences. Charles Morris did research on Semantics and found out that it deals with the relation of signs to their designate and objects they denote (Akhmanova O. and V. Zadornova, 1972, pp. 50-60).

Semiotics could be found anywhere, since it is the study of sign. These signs could include our expressions and emotions we use in our everyday life, and signs we see around us. These could include public signs, road signs and star signs. The study of Semiotics can include all these signs. It also includes photographs, drawings and paintings, through which the study could be conducted.
