Research Approaches

Introduction

The approaches to research are the basis to conducting an effective research. There are a number of research approaches available today. The most important point to note is the identification of the subject on which the research is being made. The research would be effective if the right research approach is applied in accordance and relevance to the subject of research. In this case, the subject of research is “the implementation of the SAP R/3 failed in homeland security.” There are different approaches to research which could be selected in this case for collecting important data and information. The core focus of this paper is to present a comparison between three different research approaches that would be suitable and relevant to the subject of the research.

Discussion

It is obvious that there are a number of research approaches which are used for research. In this paper, three research approaches have been selected on which an analysis would be provided as to which the most suitable research approach is according to the subject of the study. The research approaches selected for comparison include qualitative, quantitative and pragmatic approaches. The following discussion will be based on the comparison and contrast of these three research approaches.

Qualitative Approach

Qualitative research is an approach which aims to collect an in depth understanding of the human behavior and the significant reasons that govern the behavior of humans. An important characteristic of qualitative approach is that the events taking place in the qualitative approach could be understood effectively if they are witnessed in context. Therefore, it is very important for a research to immerse him in the setting when using this type of research approach. It is also noted that the qualitative researchers aim to collect information from those people who are ready to speak for themselves, and capable of providing their perspective in actions and words (Creswell, 2013). It is very important to understand that qualitative research is an interactive process in which the target audience is required to explain to the researcher about their own perspective and their real life happenings.

Advantages

It is obvious that the researcher is involved in the research closely, so he gains insights about the field. This enables the researcher to find issues that are often missed and in turn would give rise to effective research. In addition to this, qualitative research also provides suggestions about possible relationships, effects, causes, ...
