The reflective journal is an evaluation strategy that allows a person to develop meta-cognitive skills i.e. student reflect and write about the process of learning. The reflections can focus on the following aspects: the conceptual development, feelings and attitudes they experienced during their learning and reflection processes that followed to achieve learning. This consideration may include the learning objective or limited to a particular task. The journal is also a strategy for the transfer of learning. It encourages student during the process of self-evaluation. The following are the main stages in order to develop the reflective process.
Stage 1: selecting a critical incident to reflect upon
Stage 2: observing and describing that experience
Stage 3: analyzing that experience
Stage 4: interpreting that experience
Stage 5: exploring alternatives
Stage 6: framing action
According to the researchers, the reflective journal can only be effective if it is performed periodically. Initially it is a difficult task for students, who is not familiar to reflect and self- assessed in their learning process and does not understand the phenomena of this process.
Experience-based learning (EBL)
Enquiry Based Learning is the use of a variety of teaching and learning strategies that are aimed at linking research with teaching, and allows partial or full inclusion of students in a thorough investigation, using a disciplinary or interdisciplinary approach to investigate a hypothesis, problem or specific question under the supervision of the teacher. The research program promotes the international competitiveness of businesses based on knowledge, innovation, technological development and social development (www.nuigalway.ie).
The organization of research in the institution is carried out through research chairs, graduate programs, research centers and development, research networks, technological networks, support centers for industry, incubators and accelerators technology parks and together all efforts to promote the generation, transfer and application of knowledge. In the Department of Library, Learning support activities based on research undertaken by teachers through:
The inquiry-based learning occurs in three ways, these are given in continuously:
a) enquiry directed by the teacher.
b) Teachers and students as co-researchers.
c) student-led inquiry.
Keys to Success
This approach requires students to think systematically or investigate to reach reasonable solutions to a problem. Therein lies the importance of inquiry. In addition, teaching by enquiry focuses on the student, not the Professor, is based on problems, not solutions, and promotes collaboration between students. This process occurs in an atmosphere of learning physical, intellectual and social. Finally, enquiry encourages teachers to be better able to help students improve their knowledg. The enquiry should be used as a learning strategy for several reasons: we live in a changing world, the children have a need to develop their understanding of modern life and our society also moves very fast, has global connections and is oriented toward technology. In short, it takes workers to solve problems and think critically, that is a force labor "work smarter" (Deignan T., 2009, pp. 13).
Other factors that influence the enquiry is used to improve the attitude and student achievement, facilitates understanding of the students and facilitates mathematical ...
