Introduction

The aim of this reflective journal summary is to provide information to readers regarding how the journaling experience has enabled me to enhance my knowledge, beliefs, values and practice. In my 20 years of nursing experience, I have been able to learn a lot of new and useful things that allowed me to do my job in most effective and efficient way.

My profession of nursing was highly interlinked with my passion of journaling. There are many things that I have learned through journaling that would be highlighted in this reflective journal summary paper.

Discussion

The role of nursing is to provide quality health care services to patients in order to enable them to live a healthy life. Throughout my professional career I have always focused to provide best health and social care services to my patients. I always knew that there is no other profession in which an individual's performance is highly related with the lives of people. In my nursing career I have witnessed that innovation and change is important in order to come up with better ways of providing quality care to the people who needs them.

Journaling Experience

I have approximately 20 years of journaling experience. I did not just start getting into journalism for learning and development. It also gives me pleasure to spend my leisure time in journaling. The role of journaling is an important tool in order to make improvements in the practices of nursing. It enabled me to become better sensitive observer and encouraged me to focus more on my role as a nurse. I have increased my learning, knowledge, beliefs and values by the profession of journal writing. It is has played a key role in changing my feelings, assumptions and beliefs in improving holistic care to the clients.

According to Atkins (1995), journaling is important in examining internal values and exploring issues of concern. I have developed knowledge based learning by the critical analyses of nursing journals. The journaling experience has allowed be to put myself in other's shoe in order to develop better understanding of how others field. Generally in my nursing career, it has allowed me to show empathy towards my clients and his/her family members. It has allowed me to develop a set of skills which exactly match the criteria of dealing effectively and efficiently with patients. Without my experience of journaling, it would have been extremely difficult for to achieve rate of satisfaction in providing nursing care to my patients.

The journaling experience has not only improved my professional life, but personal life as well. It has given a new way to my life. I used to get really frustrated about things in my personal and professional life. However, the journaling experience thought me that different people around the globe perceive things differently. Therefore, it is important to think of oneself on the place of others in order to understand what and how they feel.
