Quality Improvement in Healthcare

Background

The system of healthcare in the United States is a topic of debate that imparts polarity. The highly symbolic of the system of facilities that are state of the art and of the medical technology that is available voluntarily gets pointed by Americans who think they have the best system for healthcare in the world, at one extreme (Adler, 2008). The fact that America suffers from administrative waste, uneven quality and massive un-insurance and spends more than any other country in the world on healthcare gets considered as being inefficiency and fragmentation of the American system by people who berate it, on the other hand. An understanding to the basic level gets required of the healthcare system of the United States, to understand the viewpoints that are opposite of the debate between these two.

How would you define quality of care from the provider and patient perspectives?

Quality of Care

Quality can gain competitive advantage. But what exactly is quality? For goods, quality is a well-defined construct, consisting of readily measurable elements such as conformance to specifications, absence of defects, or performance as expected (Aneshensel, 2009). For services, there are many approaches to defining quality but common to all is that the concept of quality is important because service quality is clearly linked to customer satisfaction. However, there are many approaches to defining service quality, which complicates both theoretical and empirical research on service quality.

Customer Perceptions

A customer perception of value and satisfaction continues throughout the property and the whole experience service. The perception is positive or negative, thinking the client set desires will influence what the company offers as it strives to maintain healthy relation with customers. This relationship can build confidence, trust and customer loyalty to the company providing services that meet the expectations of the customers (Bergan,2012). This relationship is seen as a support quality. Customer quality concerns not only the characteristics of products and services business, but it also includes features that distinguish the products and services competing companies. Customer-focused quality is important for companies in relaxation to exceed the expectations of customers, to develop awareness of the changing merchandises, and keep up with technological advances. The only way for an enterprise is to sell its products in order to understand the needs and expectations of its customers (Burns, 2007). The company must provide that product or service in an exceptional way to meet and hopefully exceed customer expectations

A number of models have been developed to guide quality improvement in healthcare and health promotion practice. These include the Precaution Adoption Process model, the Information-Motivation-Behavioral Skills (IMB) Model, the Theory of Reasoned Action and the related Theory of Planned Behavior, and the Health Belief Model. Each of these models is an attempt to explain why people do or do not engage in health-promoting activity. Although it is not possible to discuss all of these models here, the reader is referred to the literature cited for a description of the models (Health, ...
