Project Management

Introduction

Software is very important for all facets of today's world; development of software itself is not an effective process. Agile process has currently appeared as a different and new method of developing software in comparison to the conventional methods. In contrast, their success has typically been subjective, and research in this area is yet negligible in the educational areas. This paper investigates the approach of Agile has failed or successful, and examines the root causes of success or failure.

Discussion

Task 1 - Use of Agile Project Methods across Business Sectors

The term “agile” mean that something is responsive and flexible; thus, methods of agile entail its capability to survive in the constant changing environment and appear with success. In software business, this manoeuvrability refers to a characteristic that is essential ever before since installing software to the website has strengthened software competition and to stay in competition engages not only introducing new software but also decreasing error but keeping track of marketplace demands and continually moving users (Vahaniitty, Rautiainen & Lassenius, 2010, pp.1-12).

Agile approach emerged as a traditional project management alternative, usually used in development of software. It assists teams in responding to volatility through iterative and incremental work cadences. Today's business environment is complex and dynamic, where management came across changes of increasing and fast turnaround demands, changing requirements, and tight budgets. In such competitive and complex environment, traditional project management is not enough as it is predictive and task-driven, as well as assumes the factors affecting the project are predictable. On the other hand, agile approach operates well in more adaptive and more fluid environment. This method is extremely incremental and iterative process where effective communication between the project team and customer, which includes functions of business analysis and project management, is critical and inherent element to success.

In the literature, success researches cited is usually based on meta-data or case studies or observations and compilations of agile practices and projects. A study was conducted by Schatz and Abdelshafi (2005, pp.36-42) to examine the successful implementation of agile in Primavera. The company sells solutions of project portfolio management to facilitate companies in managing their resources, programs and projects. The company decided to adopt agile and XP (Agile development processes) to fix its problem. Agile is adopted to enhance the way the company manage development of product, while practices of XP is deployed to upgrade quality of product and then customize the amalgam to fit company's needs. Agile approach resulted in high level of satisfaction among customer, and an energetic development and motivated environment.
