Introduction

Any project might terminate, if operations on the project have slowed or ceased to a point after which, there is no possibility for further progress. This paper discusses the methods for closing any project. In addition to this, it describes a project that I have been involved with, where one of the below discussed methods to projects success actually occurred and the project closed before completion.

Discussion

The four methods for closing any project include:

Extinction;

Addition;

Integration, and

Starvation (Larson & Gray, 2008).

Extinction:

The project might come to an end if it successfully achieves its goals, or it might be terminated due to unsuccessful execution of objectivities. A unique type that often occurs is one that ranges from accidental procticides to political assassination, which is known as “termination by murder”.

Addition:

When major success is achieved by any project, the project might get terminated through institutionalization of the project as a recognized division of the parent company. The conversion from projects into divisions requires a higher degree of political understanding in order to achieve successful execution.

Integration:

The most complex way of terminating a project is through integration. The equipment, property, functions and personnel of the project disperse between parent company's elements. As a rule, the troubles of integration are inversely linked to the skills that the client or parent has had with:

Successful integration of other projects, apart from of technology.

Technology being incorporated.

Starvation:

This sort of termination of a project is a “slow starvation through budget decrement”. There are numerous grounds why upper level management does not desire to terminate an unsuccessful project:

Terminating a project that has not accomplished its goals is an admission of failure.

Politically dangerous to admit that one has championed a failure (Heldman, 2011).
